Solution:

Suppose each orange costs Rs. X, and each Apple costs Rs Y. Then the 3 orange + 4 Apple cost Rs 29, and 1 orange + 8 Apple cost Rs. 43 can be written as…

3X+4Y = 29—— 1st Equation

And

X+8Y = 43,——- 2nd Equation

Multiplying the 2nd Equation(X+8Y = 43) by 3 gives the equation…

3X+24Y=129

Now subtract the 1st Equation from the 2nd Equation You will get…

20= 100

and dividing both sides by 20 yields

= 5
